Christchurch Airport Website Features New Section in Japanese

Christchurch, New Zealand (PRWEB) March 9, 2009 -- Christchurch International Airport website today introduced a new section in Japanese. This section includes translated information about Christchurch airport including; a summary of the airport services, travel regulations, transport and parking information, and specific information for those travelers requiring special assistance or traveling with families.
Christchurch Airport is the only international airport in Oceania to provide a Japanese section on their website. The addition of this section reflects the airport's dedication to the Japanese market.
Statistics show that for over a decade, New Zealand has been in the top 10 most desirable countries to visit amongst Japanese tourists. There are also over 94 million people in Japan that use the internet every year. This new section will therefore provide Japanese travelers with important key information when planning their holiday to the country.
Japanese tourists are slowly moving away from traditional organized tours and are becoming more independent. Resources such as the new Japanese facility on the website are consequently more sought after and have become an important aspect of ensuring a positive New Zealand travel experience for Japanese visitors.
In 2008, 114,930 Japanese tourists were welcomed into New Zealand with approximately 31% arriving directly at Christchurch International Airport. This makes Japan the 3rd largest tourist market for the airport. An estimated 75% of Japanese package tours also have Christchurch as their destination for the first night.
The Christchurch Airport website received over 4,300 visits from Japan in 2008. This will increase in 2009 following the addition of the new Japanese section.
Gareth Owen, the Marketing and Business Development General Manager for Christchurch International Airport said that the airport recognized the value in becoming more accessible to the declining Japanese market, "as New Zealand's leading tourism gateway, the creation of this webpage is another proactive initiative that we have undertaken in order to reverse the negative growth from this region into the South Island."
