Travel Insured International Protects Travelers with Travel Insurance Coverage for Missed Ports of Call Due to Hurricanes

East Hartford, CT (PRWEB) July 28, 2008 -- Several major cruise lines last week canceled or delayed scheduled port calls to Bermuda due to the approach of Hurricane Bertha. Ship itineraries were changed to avoid high seas, sustained 70 mph winds and heavy rain that swept Bermuda on July 14 as the center of Bertha traveled just east of the destination.
Travel Insured International's comprehensive Worldwide Trip Protector and Gold travel insurance plans offer a "Missed Port of Call" benefit that specifically addresses cruise or tour disruptions.
Insured travelers who prepay for a non-refundable shore activity in a port of call, or a scheduled stop on a tour itinerary, but miss the activity due to a change of cruise or tour itinerary, can be reimbursed up to $750 unless the missed activity is rescheduled during the course of the trip. The coverage means that travel agents can be confident in selling and travelers can feel secure in booking prepaid shore or tour activities even when those activities are non-refundable.
Storm disruptions of itineraries can create problems for passengers who prepay for excursions or other land travel activities that they may have booked prior to the start of their cruise or tour. Travelers, for example, may pre-pay for concerts, a private guide, spectator sports events, participation sports sessions, training classes, cooking displays, nature adventures, art and culture events, or other add-on activities. Unfortunately these missed events or activities may not always be refunded, especially by companies that are independent of the cruise line or tour operator that is the main vacation provider.
The Missed Port of Call travel insurance benefit is not provided if the prepaid event or activity is rescheduled to be offered on a later date in the itinerary, such as during a delayed port call. Additionally, insured travelers must provide proof of the change of itinerary from the cruise or tour provider, as well as proof of prepayment for the non-refundable activity that was lost as a result of the change.
Missed Connection and Trip Delay Insurance
Missed Port of Call is an inclusive benefit in Worldwide Trip Protector and Gold travel insurance plans that also include a Missed Connection benefit of up to $750 when a weather or other common-carrier caused delay of three (3) hours or more results in expenses incurred to rejoin a missed cruise or tour departure.
In addition, Trip Delay insurance coverage of up to $200 per day is included for reasonable expenses, plus additional transportation costs to join the trip or return home, if the insured traveler is delayed for six (6) or more hours due to a covered reason. Covered reasons may include bad weather, common carrier delay, lost passports or documents, quarantine, hijacking, strike or even being delayed by a traffic accident enroute to the airport.
